Colorado BioScience Association Announces 2005 Award Winners

The Colorado BioScience Association recognizes companies and individuals who represent the very
best of Colorado's bioscience industry. Receipients of the third annual awards, given in
conjunction with BioWest 2005, were chosen by a panel of Colorado BioScience Association board members and past award recipients from a long
list of nominees. They are:
- Rising Star Company of the Year Award:
CellPoint for developing novel radiopharmaceutical imaging agents, radiotherapeutic
agents and local regional radio/chemotherapeutic drug delivery
systems for the diagnosis, treatment and post therapy assessment of cancer, cardiovascular
disease, infectious diseases and metabolic diseases.
- Company of the Year Award:
Baxa Corporation for operational excellence and giving back to the community.
Baxa is the largest Colorado-owned medical device company, with employment
growing last year by over 33%. With products sold internationally in 40 countries,
five principles guide the company: patient safety, integrity, customer focus, growth,
and performance.
- Volunteer of the Year Award:
Dr. Timothy Estep for chairing the Colorado BioScience Association’s Technology
Transfer and Sponsored Research Committee during the past three years. The Committee’s
efforts under his leadership have resulted in increased coordination between Colorado’s
research institutions and the bioscience sector.
- Chairman’s Award:
Hogan & Hartson
law firm for giving countless hours of pro bono assistance
to the Colorado BioScience Association and its predecessor organizations, the Colorado Biotechnology
Association and the Colorado Medical Device Association. Over the years, attorneys from
the firm have been present at all governance meetings and available to Colorado BioScience Association staff
for whatever issues arise.
- Lifetime Achievement Award:
Dr. Lynn Taussig, physician, President of National
Jewish Medical and Research Center
and member of the Board of the Colorado
BioScience Association, for his accomplishments as a physician and leader in
health care; for his work as an industry advocate in Colorado; and for his ongoing willingness
to lend extraordinary leadership skills to the association.
