CTEK
is a partnership of non-profit,
community-based venture centers that connects innovative entrepreneurs with a network
of expertise, resources, and capital sources to grow their companies into profitable
and sustainable businesses. CTEK venture centers are located in Boulder, Longmont,
and at the Stapleton redevelopment in Denver. Programs include custom advisory services,
introduction to capital sources, investment pitch preparation, financing strategies,
IP strategies, operational team development, business and strategic planning,
globalization, and go-to-market strategies. CTEK services triple the chance of
business success, increasing from the national average of 25% to 74%.
CTEK has 3 initiatives:
Capital
CTEK currently manages Colorado’s largest private investor group, the CTEK Angels.
This group of high-net wealth individuals not only invest in innovative companies in
Colorado, but brings significant business expertise and contacts to further these
companies. Consequently, CTEK Angels fund 2.5 times the number of deals as compared
to the national average. CTEK is currently working to expand the angels network by
assisting other communities to start their own angels groups and networking the groups
together, thereby unlocking capital across the state. CTEK is also working on the
development of a private equity fund that could match angel investments, resulting
in more capital to the companies and more deals in Colorado.
Technology Transfer
CTEK is currently working with Colorado Universities and private industries to foster
technology transfer. By assisting universities to bring technologies to market and
helping private industries locate technologies, new businesses and products result.
Entrepreneur Services—Community Venture Centers and Affiliates
The longest running CTEK program, the community Venture Center program works directly
with innovative entrepreneurs to increase the chances of success. The CTEK Network is
the key to supporting entrepreneurs. Consisting of over 4,000 people, including 850
registered advisors, these individuals come from prominent corporations, local high-growth
companies, venture firms, banks, angel groups, business and engineering schools,
technology centers, law and accounting firms, professional service firms, and economic
development agencies and associations. Registered advisors donate their expertise and
time to assist entrepreneurs in growing their companies. Venture Centers and Affiliates
tap into this network, allowing communities to share resources across geographic areas
and providing innovative entrepreneurs access to Colorado’s best expertise, resources,
and capital sources.
