State economic developer Christine Shapard will join the Colorado BioScience Association in January. Shapard has been director of biosciences and emerging technologies for the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) for two years. She will join the CBSA in January as director of marketing and communications.
During 2006, Shapard will complete some work for the OED, including on current efforts such as creation of the new Colorado nanotech organization and the statewide photonics association, as well as overseeing production of the statewide electronic newsletter for biosciences and emerging technologies.
Shapard's major duties at CBSA will include the annual BioWest Conference and the Bioscience Colorado magazine. She also will work on economic development efforts and represent the Colorado bioscience industry at national conferences and trade shows.
At the OED, Shapard helped draft and implement the statewide biotechnology plan, led the Colorado delegation at national conference BIO, led the BioWest 2005 effort and helped develop Bioscience Colorado.
She also helped draft legislation.
